Welcome to the Emotionful Dad page! My name is Robert Pence and I am, among many other things, an emotional dad. Through my day job (as a mental health therapist), I have learned a lot about emotions and ways to understand, cope with, and express them. However, becoming a dad completely changed my life experience and showed me that there is still much more for me to learn and teach. That's why I've developed a series of children's books focused on dads and emotions as a way to help other dads (or those who often fulfill the societal "Dad" role) to get some tools, tips, and strategies to understand their own emotions and the emotions of their kiddos. Even if you believe you have a long way to go to become the dad you want to be, just remember: You are perfect for your kiddo because of who you are. Anything else is Bonus!
Being a dad is the toughest thing I've ever done and I'm glad you're here to share in my journey as I hope to be a part of yours. If you have any thoughts, considerations, criticisms, or ideas, please feel free to contact me; I look forward to hearing from you!
Keep feeling and take care!
You've probably heard of being mindful - being conscious and aware of what is around you and your experience, in the moment, without judgment. I have come to find that it can be just as important to be present and non-judgmental with our emotions; what we are feeling AND what this feeling means to us in the moment and broader context - this is what it means to be Emotionful.
The goal of my writing is to help caregivers, especially those who fit the prevailing societal "Dad" role, become more aware of and in tune with their emotions, the emotions of their kiddos, and ways to talk about these emotions with their kiddos.
I appreciate you being along for the ride, as it certainly can feel like a roller coaster. Sit tight, hold on, and embrace the Dad Feelings.
